Docking, Tight Time Schedules Both for Yard & Ship Owner

Our experienced project engineers can handle all details for vessel docking during their surveys. Cooperations together with owner representative and classification society is the major point of that subject. Docking is also valuable for yard, cause yard is also earning their money from their docking capacities and velocity.

During that period owner and their team wish to pay less and dont want to see any problem for their 2,5 - 5 years periods. Sometimes that period also have some surprise problems and repair teams have to give clear solutions with a rapid reaction.

As a M&I Engineering Solutions we can manage that period with a sensetive calculations and coordinations. For docking period we can prepare hourly plans for 24 hours according to workscope (shaft - propeller works, hull steel works, hull surface prep. and coating works etc.) and need to be cross check with ballast tank coating or steel works. For standard repairs dont need any night shifts (except hull washing and blasting) but some special activities needs night shifts (ie. shaft works - seal renewals or  propeller works or hull steel works) according to work procedures (sensetive, cleanning etc.) or long work scopes. Also during that period overboard valves or pipes have to be clarify and also some major engine systems and accomodations systems have to be planned.

Mostly we can imagine that docking period is connected to coating period. According to surface preperation ratios (percentage of the SA2 or SA2,5 is important) and coating method generally we can think that;

   Day.1 - Docking and washing of hull 300 bars - 500 bars,

   Day.2 - Blasting of hull,

   Day.3 - Blasting of hull and applying first coat of the paint,

   Day.3 - (Night) Washing of hull with hose down,

   Day.4 - Applying second coat,

   Day.5 - Applying third coat,

   Day.6 - Applying final coat,

   Day.7 - Undocking of the vessel.

During that period we can organise listed items which are mainly we can called dry dock items;

  • Bottom inspections (bottom plug condition surveys, rudder plug opening with a withness of class surveyor etc.),

  • Overboard valve and seachest cleanings,

  • Overboard pipe inspection and repairs,

  • Hull steel works,

  • Shaft, rudder and propeller works,

  • Hull catodic protection works (Include ICCP, zinc or aluminium anode renewals),

  • Speed log & echo sounder & MGPS renewals or repairs,

  • Ballast tanks coating or steel works,

  • Chain locker cleaning, steel renewals, anchor & chain inspections and also chain measurement works,

  • Ballast pump overhauls,

  • Cooler cleanings and overhauls,

  • Some of generator overhauls,

  • Windlass overhauls,

  • Some of the deck repairs according to yard crane avabilities etc.
